Prime Minister said following during Tuesday's Brexit debate

"There are no checks GB-NI. There will be some light touch measures to ensure there is no illegal trade."

And then later: "I repeat: there will be no checks between Great Britain and Northern Ireland."
Why should you care about this. Well one way checks are carried out at the UK frontier is by the UK Border Force. Critics of the Johnson deal say it puts a border down the Irish Sea. Yesterday officials couldn’t rule out that UKBF may have to check goods moving within the UK:

The official threat level for terrorism in the UK has been LOWERED. It's gone down a notch from "Severe" to "Substantial". However, this is not as good news as it sounds. It still means that the secret body that assesses the risks thinks an attack is still "likely".
The new threat level is the LOWEST level of threat in five years. The previous level of "Severe" was an assessment by the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre that an attack was "highly likely". JTAC's decision to lower the level comes from its assessment of all threats
(Threats basically means possible attacks from supporters of jihadist causes such as the Islamic State group, the far-right and NI paramilitary groups.)

Re wide reporting of package in MPs offices today: There used to be a generally-observed unwritten rule observed across the media that we **didn't** report suspicious packages until they were known to be definitely suspicious unless disruption was really significant.

Why such a rule? Simple. Hoaxes and false alarms are generally not a story. And they may lead to more false alarms, hoaxes & fear. So we'd end up scaring the audience & may encourage more fear, more false alarms & more would-be hoaxers...

This won't get much notice amid the Election hullabaloo but MPs on Foreign Affairs Committee stuck the boot into what they call the government's "flawed" master plan to stop illegal migration & say it only leads to more people smuggling and misery: bbc.co.uk/news/uk-502834…
Four significant points raised by MPs. 1) Strategy to combat smuggling relies on international co-operation, but UK Govt has seemingly stopped attending the EU meetings where continent-wide plans to target irregular/illegal migration are discussed.
2) Nobody knows - not even ministers and their top officials - if the UK will still be part of the European Migrant Smuggling Centre after Brexit. This is dedicated to gathering intelligence to catch the gangs.

Transit is an existing customs procedure. Allows to move customs formalities away from the border and only scan a barcode when passing the border. In some cases transit can start or end at company’s own premises. (Bit more on it here) /2

Brexit already doing massive harm to the UK. Over 200 examples of job losses, lost investment, police & army prepping, companies moving assets to the EU or redomiciling. Meanwhile, the Government burns through £billions chasing a nutty no deal Brexit. Real life, not project fear!

I know some people call it the special relationship. But that doesn't mean Britain will get a sweetheart deal. Trade policy is not a charity game.

Of course, the British government really wants a deal. But for the US the matter is less urgent. As with Brexit, Britain will be in a substantially weaker bargaining position. Britain needs the US more than the other way around.
