Just saw this headline and normally wouldn't have read it since it seemed celebrity related, but noticed that Anne Hathaway's ex boyfriend went to prison for scamming investors by claiming he had ties to the Vatican & could buy church properties.

Near the end of the article, it also mentioned something about lobbying for a Presidential pardon, though that was in 2013. Now he's writing some sort of "tell-all" book, though not quite sure what about.
He was released from prison in 2012 and deported back to Italy and has since married an American citizen (Probably thinking he'd be able to get back to the US that way). No such luck yet, LOLOL.
So anyway, I had to go look this guy up and found this article, which says he scammed investors who were trying to buy and re-develop Catholic church properties.

Former chief auditor at the Vatican, Libero Milone, thinks he was forced to resign from the Vatican 2 yrs ago after he started an inquiry into off-the-books money held in Swiss bank accounts.
He claimed that some in the Vatican were worried that he was going to uncover something they didn’t want him to see. The Vatican police accused him of embezzlement and spying & I guess he was charged because it says the Vatican later dropped the charges.
