NHTSA wants Tesla to hand over all documents related to “high-voltage battery fires that are not related to collision or impact damage to the battery pack” in their Models S and X.

This might be the lawsuit that's referenced in one of the articles. The suit claimed that Tesla limited the battery range by way of software updates to avoid recalls of defective batteries.

I should note, though, that I don't know where those Tesla batteries were made, such as if they were made in China or if any parts of them were made in China.
