As I’ve been noting for years, MOST of the world regards the modern secular West as SPIRITUALLY BLIND in our inability to perceive what is clearly there.
One of Hume’s central arguments against miracles is, basically, “Only n***ers believe in miracles.”

Any contemporary atheist who wants to die on THAT HILL is welcome to.
One really shouldn’t underestimate the power of an argument like “White people are too smart to believe in miracles” is shaping the mind of the Enlightenment, and thus, we heirs of it.

How much does Pinker get into the Enlightenment’s invention of RACISM in Enlightenment Now?
I haven’t read Pinker’s book and don’t plan to, but racism is a peculiarly modern, Enlightenment phenomenon.

Proclaiming the “brotherhood of man” is no less an Enlightenment thing than “scientifically” categorizing the human species into “races.” That is what SCIENCE DOES.

The argument is “mathematics cannot be merely a human conceptual construction because the objective physical world has a mathematical structure. If the physical world has an objective mathematical structure, we are not the creators of mathematics.

No, dipshit, it is an argument to the best explanation. It has fuck-all to do with “feelings.”

The world, independently of our thoughts, has a mathematical structure. THEREFORE we did not create math, because we didn’t create the world.
If mathematicals exist entirely independently of human thoughts, which is proven by the fact that the physical world has a mathematical structure which predates humans, then mathematics was not created by us as as a social construct.

Finally, Dr. Ed Feser has a piece called Debunking the “One God Further” Objection, which I hadn’t seen before.

It is, as one would expect, a thorough demolition. Also, Feser begins, as I usually do, by citing Bill Vallicella, the Maverick Philosopher.

What presents itself as “fear of error” reveals itself as fear of truth.
Skepticism constantly relies on presuppositions of which it is not at all skeptical—it makes itself possible by a kind of primordial willing (and consequent defining) of knowledge to be impossible.
In my experience, it is the cowardly who opt for the path “avoiding error” rather than “finding truth.” They are like would-be lovers, who never have bad relationships, because they have none, out of fear of being hurt or rejected.

They call their cowardice “humility” and boast.

1/ one of the most common arguments against bitcoin's PoW is energy expenditure and "waste" - both in terms of computational capacity and electricity. this is a flawed analysis, because it is absolute instead of comparative.
2/ how much energy is expended on mining, trading, and storing physical gold? how much energy is expended on printing and securing physical cash? how much energy is expended on building, maintaining, and securing telecommunications infrastructure?
3/ relative analysis is always more valuable than absolute analysis. i sometimes fall into this trap - especially in crypto - of thinking x is better than y without attempting to understand the relative value of x and its analogs
