1/ Continuing my thoughts about voting and those who say they won’t vote for anyone who supports any kind of compromise or just bc they’re the lesser of two evils Bc “they should have to EARN my vote...” mmmhmm ok... follow along please...
2/ ...there are 130m current voters who feel the same way and maybe another 100 million non voters who do to... and they dont all think like you. Candidates have to figure out how to get the most votes from this eclectic mix...not just you and those in your Bakunin book club...
3/ By demanding Dems earn your vote with purity on certain issues or you’ll withhold it, you’re saying they should ignore others who feel differently even if that would cost them the election. Which benefits whom exactly? You want your vote to be MORE important than others..
4/ you’re assuming that the key is getting you and those like you but unless it is clear that you and those like you are a clear electoral college vote majority (this is not clear) no one will take the chance. You’re demanding they be willing to lose on perfect principle...
5/ rather than win and live to fight another day with more air in the tank... this is short sighted at best, dangerously politically narcissistic at worst...
6/ and if you think “the majority IS behind us! They do support left ideas” prove it to candidates. After all, if they believed that they would fall in line. Why would they NOT move left if they thought they would win that way? Of course they would...
7/ and make sure your evidence is specific to electoral college battlegrounds. Turning out tens of thousands for rallies in NYC or the Bay Area or whatever is pretty meaningless. Do it in Detroit/Ann Arbor, Milwaukee, Philly, Tallahassee, Charlotte, etc
8/ otherwise of course they’ll ignore your demands Bc they would view indulging them as political suicide. You might BE right about where voters are but making that case requires work not threats to stay home...
And I say this as someone who wants America to be as left as some think it is but has traveled the country talking to folks in all 50 states for 25 years and knows better...I’m for getting folks there but that won’t happen by not voting and giving Trump more time w/them...
