More #HealthcareFraud

So, Lenox Hill Hospital in New York has to pay $12.3 MILLION to settle False Claims Act violations for submitting fraudulent Medicare claims for hospital services & Urology procedures/surgeries.

Guess what Doctor was involved?
That would be Dr. David Samadi of Fox News/Sunday Housecall fame.

Say "Cheese"
So, Lenox Hill Hospital/Northwell Health, Inc, billed Medicare for services that did NOT comply with Medicare law.

Dr Samadi was Lenox Hill's former Chair of Urology.

While he was there, the hospital encouraged & facilitated surgical practices that violated Medicare rules.
More specifically, the hospital:

- Submitted claims for endoscopic procedures that were done by medical residents who weren't sufficiently supervised

- Robotic surgeries where Dr Samadi left patients improperly unattended while leaving to do another surgery at the same time
- Hopsital services that were medically unnecessary

- Violated the "Stark Act" by designating health services referred by Samadi to Lenox Hill
The hospital did all of this to, of course, "maximize revenues" that Samadi generated for Lenox Hill.

They would schedule Samadi for two surgeries at one time and allow him to travel back & forth between surgical rooms, leaving patients without sufficient medical oversight.
Lenox Hill also allowed Samadi to use their operating rooms for minor diagnostic procedures. The operating rooms used the services of more costly op room nurses & anesthesiologists, and Lenox Hill submitted claims for them, even though they were medically unnecessary.
People wonder why healthcare costs are so high...well, this is just one, very small part of it. This sort of stuff probably goes on all the time.
We, the taxpayers, pay for this. There's already a TON of government healthcare fraud, so just imagine how much more there would be if Democrats had their way and forced everyone into government controlled healthcare.
The Stark Law is a federal law that bans Doctors from referring Medicare patients to any entity with which the Doctor has a financial relationship.
The DOJ announcement didn't mention anything about any charges against Dr Samadi himself, so not sure if that's still in the DOJ pipeline.

I did find this article from 2017 stating that Dr Samadi was also under investigation, though.
