We lost my mentor, #AudreLorde, OTD in 1992. She would be 85 now.
I wrote this piece about our first meeting, our first dance and how she changed my young life and propelled me forward. She was extraordinary and the blessing of knowing her remains with me.

Oh my.
Obama's former physician Dr. David Scheiner is on @OutFrontCNN.
He just said that Trump did not have to go to Walter Reed for his physical, it can all be done at the White House.
He said Trump had some urgent issue--chest pain or neurological issue.
Dr. David Scheiner says that there is a neurological issue.
He cites Trump's "inability to find words is very concerning."
He also mentioned Bernie, Biden and Bloomberg.

Thinking more about what Obama's doctor said: that Trump's doctor is an ER doc and so may have felt whatever the crisis was couldn't be handled at the White House and so they rushed him to Walter Reed. But that there was no other reason to go there except for an MRI.

The centrists determined to claim Obama's message when he spoke out clearly for progressive change somehow missed this key passage about moving forward and capturing the moment to do so:
Obama's message was NOT, as some have asserted, to throw shade at progressive politics, but to get donors to stop searching for a savior. Obama emphasised that there were fine candidates running now--refuting claims he was dissatisfied with the field.

PSA: If you have a loved one who has been paralyzed, advocate for them for pain management. In one of the freakish horrors of paralysis, your paralyzed parts are in pain 24/7.
And no one believes it.
My dad had a stroke and complained all the time about the pain and I wish I could go back and buttonhole his [expletive] doctor and demand pain meds for him.
It is some freaky nerve stuff that you both cannot feel your paralyzed parts, but also have all this unrelenting pain.

#OTD 1797 Horatio Nelson onboard Theseus, along with 3 other Third Rates, 3 Frigates and a number of other vessels were approaching Santa Cruz - Tenerife.

Orders given on July 14th from Earl St Vincent to Nelson were to 'make a sudden and vigorous assault' on the town.

St Vincent's plan? To extend his blockade of Cadiz which had been ongoing since his victory at Cape St Vincent earlier that year by attacking the Spanish merchant fleet at Santa Cruz, but also capture Spanish treasure that hadn't yet reached the mainland

The idea was to copy, sort of, the victory of Blake in 1657 who also blockaded Cadiz, before destroying the plate fleet & its bullion at Santa Cruz.

The Spanish wouldn't be entirely unaware of what was happening as raids by British frigates were regular and men were on alert.

Despite a Commons majority of 207, the move was highly controversial and it was bitterly opposed by Conservative MPs and the right-wing press.
The Sun call it a 'Vote of Shame' as 'MPs take a giant stride along the road to moral degeneration'.

They criticise the Government for misleading the people and beginning a process where 'they will say, what's wrong with 14' to appeal to 'perverts who prey' on young men
The Daily Mail argue that its a 'big step in the wrong direction' with Labour 'surrendering' to the 'gay lobby' and disregarding public opinion.

They claim that 'the militant gay movement, already in full cry, needs no encouragement'
