Buttigieg does NOT experience generic LGBT "immense roadblocks." There are specific ways discrimination do and don't play out differently for different G AND L AND B AND T folks of different race & class. Stump intellectually dishonestly lumping us all together, @markharris.
@markharris Been thinking a lot lately about "LGBT" and "LGBTQ." They get used incorrectly A LOT. "Buttigieg has LGBT support" is bandied about a lot; it is not true. He seems to have the support of a lot of GAY MEN, but I've yet to meet any lesbians, bisexual or trans folks who like him.
@markharris I am an N of 1 and of course some LB & T folks may like him. But I am confused why stories will say he has LGBT support & refer to him as an LGBT candidate when they only cite/source/quote GAY MEN.
@markharris I am also genuinely curious—not condemning, but curious about—why do journos use LGBT to talk about G or L? Pete Buttigieg COULD be described as the 1st gay, Lori Lightfoot as the first L.

@markharris I think "LGBT" is a convenient cover. IF you can say "He's LGBT & he represents all LGBT" withOUT dealing with the specific ways trans ppl experience violence (medical, economic, state, vocational), withOUT dealing with the misogynistic violence lesbians face, withOUT dealing...

@markharris @MarkHarrisNYC @DarWilliamsTour The starched white shirt, the smile, the small town mayo(r)ship, leads for a white cis gay man to a kind of acceptance by a part of the populace. A loud, femme, queer or trans PoC would never be in such a position to say, "Hey, I'm a small town mayor, make me POTUS"
