People keep asking my opinion of Stadi. But it literally does not matter how bad or good the experience is; it is just a tech demo to show the $$-men how many adopters jump aboard a new logic of control, subscription, distribution, bandwidth and data that they’re bandying about.
You can tell when industry is gearing up for this as new suggestions of “needs” and what real “quality” is start to sprout. Now you need gaming convenience between your couch and phone! Now it’s just not good enough if it’s not extremely high-res at high framerates, etc.
You might think that video game sales rhetoric is *always* about the next better GPU, but I feel like I watch this ebb and flow over years; sometimes the focus swings for a while to “gameplay” or alt inputs/outputs, etc. But then back, because of another push for processing tech.
And as many people have pointed out, at this stage the processing push has to skip over smaller devices so they don’t literally set you and your home on fire. So to the cloud, and next maybe (much colder) quantum computing blah blah etc, none of which is *directly* good for games
Anyway is Google even trying to do a “successful product launch” of Stadia? Probably not? They have other ways to reap from the forthcoming business logic of cloud gaming, which don’t require muddying hands with “content.” So they’re just promoting it, trial-ballooning.
