Is it time for a reexamination of the system we’ve developed?
One of those assumptions is that #copyright is a way to incentivize cultural production, but history and empirical evidence shows us the optimal copyright term to incentivize production is only 15-25 years.

Long copyright terms can actually discourage creativity.
It's also assumed that #copyright is necessary to encourage ongoing investment in existing works, but again empirical evidence shows the reverse: works in the public domain are more readily available.

Digitization is making it even easier for investment in public domain titles.

YouTube’s algorithm has been curating home movies of unwitting families into a catalog of semi-nude kids, we found.

YT often plays the videos after users watch softcore porn, building an audience of millions for what experts call child sexual exploitation

Each video might appear innocent on its own, a home movie of a kid in a two-piece swimsuit or a nightie. But each has three common traits:
• the girl is mostly unclothed or briefly nude
• she is no older than age 8
• her video is being heavily promoted by YouTube’s algorithm
Any user who watched one kiddie video would be directed by YouTube's algorithm to dozens more — each selected out of millions of otherwise-obscure home movies by an incredibly sophisticated piece of software that YouTube calls an artificial intelligence. The families had no idea.

On Monday, in a memo published to the FCC website, chair Ajit Pai admitted “half-million comments” on net neutrality were “submitted from Russian e-mail addresses.” Pai had earlier denied Russian involvement. @theweeklylist.org
The memo also indicated thatover half of the almost 22 million comments came from phony, temporary, or duplicate email addresses, and reportedly only 17.4% of the comments were unique.
Pai also rejected two Freedom of Information Act requests filed byNYT and BuzzFeed, seeking “IP addresses” and “server logs,” respectively, associated with public comments submitted on net neutrality. @theweeklylist.org
