Over the last week, @latimes has been releasing findings from a poll of issues that likely voters in L.A. are thinking about.

The big takeaway? 95% of voters identify homelessness as the No. 1 problem in L.A. County.

This is not surprising. Everyone is frustrated.

From our perspective, the fact that homelessness continues to be the focus of just about everyone in L.A. County is a good thing.

For many decades it was not and that, in part, is what got us into today’s crisis.
The main finding in the poll we want to discuss is this:

A majority of voters say funds raised by Measure H and Prop. HHH have been spent “ineffectively.”

This is not a surprise.

But it’s worth digging into.
It is human nature to draw conclusions based on what we see.

HHH has allowed us to approve more #supportivehousing in the last 3 years than in the previous 30, and H has allowed us to double the number of people moved into permanent housing.

This is significant progress.
It doesn’t mean that the measures are failures, it means that we need your help to do more 👏
Another encouraging takeaway is that voters seem willing to consider holistic solutions to ending our housing shortage.

As @EliseBuik of @launitedway states in @latimes:

“It looks like there is support for higher-density zoning, mixed-income housing, which I was glad to see.”
This data point is also worth noting:

Regarding long-term policies versus short-term solutions, 59% of voters favored long-term solutions even if they “take much longer and cost more up front, but hold out the hope of a permanent solution that might save money in the long run.”
People know that there’s no silver bullet, and that homelessness can’t be swept out of sight.

👏
The poll also revealed that voters understand the connection between high housing costs and homelessness.

Among the voters polled:
- ⅓ knew someone experiencing housing insecurity
- ½ think lack of #affordablehousing leads to homelessness
What does that tell us?

People know our housing crisis is our homelessness crisis, and these problems are systemic and institutional. 👏

That means holistic, inclusive solutions in addition to more housing and services.

That is how we get #EveryoneIn
