.@LaaliMD says “how do we convince climate change deniers? That’s the wrong question“ which is exactly the same thing I say when I’m asked the same question ensia.com/voices/climate…
But my response differs in one tiny way. I suggest the better question is “who?” as in “who should we be concentrating our efforts on when talking about climate change?” The answer isn’t the 10% of the public who are dismissive of climate science...
Instead, there are two main categories of people we should focus on. One is the “moveable middle”, people who are unconvinced about climate change but open to evidence...
Second, we should focus on empowering and activating the 59% of the public who are concerned or alarmed about climate change. While most people are on board about climate change, they mostly don’t talk about climate change with friends and family...
Breaking climate silence is crucial to building social momentum for climate action. But how? The biggest factor driving climate silence is pluralistic ignorance-not realising the majority of the public are concerned about climate change...
So two simple numbers debunking pluralistic ignorance:

59 = percentage of Americans concerned or alarmed about climate change.

10 = percentage of Americans dismissive of climate science.
