Sorry for my tardiness, but here is a brief summary of AHA Lp(a) highlights:
1- elevated Lp(a) is associated with reduced overall longevity
2- In Odyssey outcomes, elevated Lp(a) was associated with both peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and deep venous thrombosis (mainly PAD)

This effect seems to be modified by alirocumab and incidence was reduced in this group vs placebo

6- OxPL, @OxPL_apoB are elevated in patients with elevated Lp(a) and there are differences in racial groups

7- one key basic science abstract (surprisingly only one, which gives glimpse to POOR funding by both AHA and NIH on Lp(a) research) linking sortrilin, PCSK9 protein and MTP in how hepatocytes assemble and secrete Lp(a)
8- some chatter on who should get Lp(a) testing, but US is way behind on this issue, still debating the obvious that all subjects should get tested at least once in lifetime. The problem with guidelines is they are at least 5 years behind the times.
9- pre-clinical data on another company (Silence Rx) entering Lp(a) therapeutics. This in now 4 companies and counting. Phase 3 Novartis Phase 3 trial starts in 1-2 months with TQJ230 and this is the only drug with published human data, clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04…
10- Finally, not at AHA but NHLBI hosted a second Lp(a) Working Group, now on Lp(a) standardization, that I co-chaired with Alan Remaley, with also presence from Lp(a) Foundation, so hopefully we will get all stakeholders together to move this part of the field forward.
Congrats and thank you to NHLBI, which has understood that we cant continue to ignore the public health impact of over 1 billion people with elevated Lp(a)! I cant think of a better place for NHLBI to put emphasis and public funding for the public good.
