I've been saying it publicly for over 10 years and nobody wanted to hear it: @UnivMiami is not and never will be a "Football School." As a private academic institution, sports are not a priority for the administration's limited resources. That's not a knock, it's just reality.
@univmiami Thanks to amazing past ADs hiring incredible coaches and their remarkable recruiting, UM was able to make magic in a bygone era. We can't compete with big time programs and are unlikely to “get back to the glory days." 'Canes fans need to seriously recalibrate their expectations.
@univmiami Forget National Championships — we’ve had 5 head coaches since joining the ACC in 2004 (Coker, Shannon, Golden, Richt, Diaz) and we’re still talking about how to win THAT championship. We've only ever competed for it once.
@univmiami I don't believe the Miami Hurricanes head coaching job is a particularly desirable one beyond program alumni ("dream job!"), young coaches already looking for their next higher-paying gig, or legacy coaches settling into their last gig.
@univmiami When I say "limited resources," that's in comparison to legit big time "Football Schools" and their administration priorities. Don't get it twisted: UM has a LOT of money. But they spend it on what THEY want, not what WE want.
@univmiami None of this precludes or excuses poor management and/or coaching. It is, in no small part, the cause of it.
@univmiami I understand you folks in denial. "Fan" is, after all, short for "fanatic." I share your love and loyalty but it comes from the heart and not the head. I'm just talking facts and the truth hurts. Sorry not sorry.
