First time for everything but I strongly disagree with Sarah here. Understanding these issues doesn’t require having CEO on the ground be a higher priority. Not with current issues. Facebook’s failures in Myanmar can’t be excused because Zuckerberg didn’t physically live there.
If they don’t solve current issues impacting the most critical country for their values (and their ARPU) then nothing else matters. All social media CEOs have said they’ve had moderation, disonformation, manipulation decisions escalated to them.
When things inevitably escalate in the next 11 months, a CEO by phone won’t suffice. Think: banning Infowars, IRA accounts, decelerating lies from a White House, Facebook trending issue, manipulated Pelosi video, public over profit, are those decisions going to be delegated?
