What we are witnessing with regard to trumps criminality and it’s lasting effect on our republic is stark. The other day, the Judiciary committee artfully invited constitutional scholars and lawyers to describe the America that was articulated by our founders.
This country’s inception was two things: it was at once a rejection of a monarchy filled with corruption, and an affirmation of a place run by its citizens, and with all the precautions that can be taken to avoid the foibles of mankind and his insatiable thirst for power.
The America described by our founders was a magnificent dream. That America has never quite existed. It is probably as far from its intended glory at the this point than almost ever before. But knowing that, that is the dream we are asked to aspire to,
Especially those who serve this country either militarily, congressionally, legislatively, or as executors. They raise their hand on the Bible and swear an oath to that dream. And when those people let us down, this place dies a little. And when their criminality is blatant
They threaten the very existence of what might have been, what has always been closest to being, the most beautiful republic that has ever been built in the history of man.
So what are all boils down to is equally stark: you are either for the America that our founders articulated, where lawlessness is not tolerated, and where no soul is above the law. OR, you are for some country that has nothing to do with America.
And you can take your flag and wave it, and wrap yourself in it, and rant, and scream, until your lungs bleed. That America that you root for is no America at all. That is some other place. Where soldiers throughout our history bled and died to protect us from.
