Today marks the 78th anniversary of Pearl Harbor. On the morning of December 7, 1941, 1,177 American servicemen were killed when the Japanese forces attacked the USS Arizona, among hundreds of others.
Of the 335 members of the Arizona who survived that day, only 3 are still alive: Lou Conter, 98, Ken Potts, 98, and Donald Stratton, 97. Two survivors passed away earlier this year: Lonnie Cook and Lauren Bruner.
The bombing of Pearl Harbor precipitated the United States' immediate entry into World War II. In history, it is second only to September 11, 2001, for the deadliest loss of life in a single attack on American soil.
