1. Wondering how Universities come up with trans policies? Stonewall document “Trans Inclusive Policies and Benefits” gives you a good idea. On p.2, they stipulate each organisation should have 4 trans policies (compare: how many policies does your Uni have for BAME students?)
2. On p.5 they address “transphobia” (remember: defined as including “denial/refusal to accept.. gender identity”). They urge staff be made aware of “subtle and nuanced ways transphobia can occur”. One college is praised for enabling 3rd party reporting of “hate incidents”
3. On p.1, Stonewall instructs member organisations of their Diversity Scheme to go beyond law and treat non-binary identities as protected characteristics.
4. On p.4: “You should allow anyone to access facilities.. which align with their gender identity”. Stonewall implies this would not meet bar set by Equality Act for a same-sex exemption. (Presumably explains why many campus toilets are now unisex w/t impact assessment).
5. The whole guide is password-protected on Stonewall’s website. We wonder why they don’t want public scrutiny of this. However, Oxford Brookes helpfully have included the whole document on their website here brookes.ac.uk/documents/staf…
That should say "single-sex" exemption, obviously
