“But the facts in this instance are unambiguous: The president of the United States attempted to use his political power to coerce a foreign leader to harass and discredit one of the president’s political opponents.”

Straight talk — from the GOP’s base. 1/bit.ly/38X9yo1
The piece raises important questions for Trump-voting Christians: “To the many evangelicals who continue to support Mr. Trump...Consider what an unbelieving world will say if you continue to brush off Mr. Trump’s immoral words and behavior in the cause of political expediency.”2/
This week Rep. Loudermilk (R) compared the President to Jesus. The absurd comparison didn’t age well: later that SAME DAY President Trump said Rep. Dingell may be “looking up” (from Hell) and mocked the late Congressman’s widow, @RepDebDingell.

That’s not Christlike — at all. 3/
From ripping apart families on our Southern Border, to their Quixotic quest to dismantle the Affordable Care Act —denying healthcare to millions of America, the Party of Trump does not comport with the Gospel of peace or a commandment to love our neighbors as ourselves. 4/
The @CTmagazine piece lances a festering belief among some evangelicals that the President embodies Christian values. He does not. He doesn’t display one aspect of the fruit of the spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, faithfulness, goodness, gentleness or SELF-CONTROL.5/
In fact, as the article points out:
“His Twitter feed alone—with its habitual string of mischaracterizations, lies, and slanders—is a near perfect example of a human being who is morally lost and confused.” 6/
I am a strong proponent of the separation of church and state. And I am deeply disturbed by the President and his enablers who would distort and distress the tenets of my faith for political purposes. 7/
To believers struggling with politics, remember who Jesus was: a brown-skinned, Jewish refugee, and wrongly-convicted death row inmate who told people to give away their possessions and help the poor. He was a champion for marginalized people — the last, the lost & the least. 8/
Jesus healed the lame without mocking them. He fed the hungry without demanding work requirements. He exalted a Good Samaritan (who did not share his faith) for helping someone in need. He directed us to care for widows, not exploit their grief. 9/
Thank you @CTmagazine for saying what many of us have long known, President Trump is a man of “grossly immoral character” who “has abused his authority for personal gain and betrayed his constitutional oath.”

It’s time for him to be removed from office. 10/10 #gapol
