A few facts to keep handy in the face of intellectually dishonest GOP arguments today.

1. Impeachment of a President is not the process of undoing a previous election. It is the process whereby Congress indicts a President for wrongdoing while in office.
2. Though a quid pro quo is obvious, none is needed.

The drafters of the impeachment clause said so.

Madison was worried about the perfidy of a President, or deceit. He worried a President would wrongly work with a foreign power.

Edmund Randolph was concerned a President would seek to profit from the office, would seek emoluments from the presidency.

George Mason was concerned a President would undermine an investigation into himself, or might interfere with the work and duty of electors.

Three clear articles of impeachment could be moved in the next 30 days:

Article 1. The President engaged in abuse of power by using the Presidency to influence a foreign leader to interfere in the American Presidential election of 2020.
Article 2. The President obstructed justice by instructing staff to terminate the Department of Justice special counsel investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 election, and further instructed staff to memorialize an official record denying such effort was made.
Article 3. The President obstructed justice by withholding material information from Congress, repeatedly frustrating the constitutional oversight functions of the legislative branch.

Something I don't speak about frequently but am reminded of each time Trump expresses resentment that his campaign's contacts with Russia were surveilled:
In Congress, I received a private invite for a very delicate international meeting. Importantly for this thread, it was *personally arranged* not through traditional diplomatic or intel channels, a lawful invitation, but involving a highly sensitive security matter at the time.
The important thing is - I hoped, and expected, that US intelligence assets fully knew of my meetings. I hoped, and expected, that I was being surveilled. I hoped, and expected, that my takeaway from the exchanges would be supplemented by independent US intel takeaways as well.
