1) this is absurd abuse of expectations, 2) and any students should protest this if their U., is doing it, 3) then demand why there isn’t a national law to regulate it.
This is no different than what happens with Facebook. 97% of Facebook’s near $70B in revenue comes from advertisers (aka the customers) so it pushes surveillance of its users (aka the product it is selling to its advertisers) as far as it can get away with it to max revenues.
With this university surveillance product covered by @drewharwell, the administration is paying bill (aka the customer) so without any laws, they’ll push the edge as far as they can to please the universities’ administration and professors. Without protest, it becomes the norm.
ps @jackshafer told me about this report with real words to my ears when I bumped into him on the street. It was quaint. Of course, with 3ft accuracy on gps, there is data to back this up 🤔.
