As we roll into the end of the year, I am taking stock of 2019. It was a pretty crazy year for me personally. Here are just a few of the good, bad and weird that happened to me this year: 1/
Jan 2019: I reconnected with a long "lost" friend after 22 years. This entire year we have been catching each other up on the interim years since he went to a new job and we drifted apart. It has been a joyful experience that has pushed me to maintain all my friendships.
Jan 2019: Our mother @sweetnote had surgery for breast cancer which was very successful. She went through a month of radiation and came out the other side. I am grateful that this was caught early and was dealt with quickly.
Jan 2019: @TheJulieBenson and I saw our last issue of Green Arrow released. We decided to take a break from comics to focus on our TV work and wrote a new sample for staffing season.
Feb 2019: Julie and I put together a panel of women genre TV writers to discuss... women writing genre TV at @gallifreyone. It was a great panel, hopefully something we can do again sometime...
Feb 2019: Our parents both got DNA tests and learned that we are the whitest Western European/UK descended family ever.
Feb 2019: @TheJulieBenson and I complete a fantasy pilot in prep for staffing season.
Mar 2019: @thejuliebenson and I returned to Chicago for @c2e2. It was a fantastic show made even better by a much-anticipated visit to @AviaryCocktails. One of the best nights out we'd had in ages and so worth the $$.
Mar 2019: Back only a week from C2E2 we were invited guests at @WonderCon, a great honor for us.
Mar 2019: REDACTED UNTIL TBD (but it was really fun)
Apr 2019: April 13th. We fired our agents. We all did. While we were prepared for a long standoff, going into staffing season with our agents was... disconcerting. Fortunately, we had hired a lawyer the month before.
Apr 2019: Staffing season starts in earnest. While we had more meetings for shows than in years previous, thanks to our hustle and #WGAStaffingBoost, we came up empty for network and cable staffing in live action.
June 2019: We close a deal to write a pilot for [REDACTED] -- hopefully we can tell you who soon (though what it is will be very redacted for awhile...
June 2019: Within days of our pilot deal we close a deal to write for an animated (Still untitled) Star Trek series. ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED.
July 2019: Annual sojourn to San Diego Comic Con. Julie and I appear on the most... lively panel this far, moderated by @MarkWaid regarding what defines a superhero. @TheJulieBenson and I embrace our new nickname "The Tiger Twins."
Aug 2019: Nine months after we wrapped on the show, #WuAssassins premieres on Netflix.
Sept 2019: Julie and I hatch a plan to make Instagram videos for writing tips. We will relaunch this in 2029 after life and technical difficulties got in our way.
Oct 2019: @austinfilmfest, my 9th time, @TheJulieBenson's first. First time as an actual guest. Good hang w @aggiebrett. Finally met people we fangirl over (@garywhitta, @StephanyFolsom, most notably) and learned the true meaning of "porch beers" via @Massawyrm. Awesome week.
Those are the highlights. I'll let @TheJulieBenson fill in any gaps... but there's one significant life development I will tweet a long thread about tomorrow... #2019inReview
