What do you think happens if Pete wins Iowa? (Not making any statement with this question, just want to know how you think this would affect the race)
Iowa plays a different role in the primary for Dems than GOP. High concentration of politically-organized Evangelical Christians favors avowedly Evangelical candidates (Cruz, Santorum, Huckabee). Different role in Dem race, so Trump's 2016 loss is not a particularly apt precedent
(And yes I know Santorum was not an Evangelical Protestant, but he pioneered a weird new Evangelical/Catholic fusionism thing)
I posed the question about Pete after reading this piece, which cuts against the anti-Pete Twitter narrative pretty sharply: iowastartingline.com/2019/12/30/pet…
My operating assumption for months has been that Bernie "needs" to win Iowa but I'm revising that given his huge cash advantage. Doesn't particularly need it, in all likelihood. We don't know how the race will look in, say, April.
