Right. 2019's almost up. Time for a shout out to the podcasts I've most enjoyed this year...
1) The Daily from the NY Times. Known by most people on here I suspect but really is exceptional. Like a cheat sheet for understanding the most important stories of the moment. Brings proper depth in contrast to all the tweets and hot takes.
2) Campaign HQ from @davidplouffe. The best podcast for really getting across the 2020 Democratic nomination race. He was Obama's 08 campaign manager. Interviews the top advisers to the front-runners, among others. Wonkish but v insightful.
3) The @bbctms podcast. Something deeply nostalgic about listening to TMS commentary the other side of the world. I consumed the World Cup + Stokes's Headingley heroics this way. Their podcast comes at the end of each day's play, usually 30ish mins.
4) Modern Love from NY Times. Real life stories about "relationships, feelings, betrayals and revelations". 20ish mins each, always true, read by prominent actors. Perfect escapism from politics + a reminder of the fundamental good in people.
5) @beefanddairy. Simply the best comedy podcast out there. Too hard to explain in a tweet. Surreal, inspired. Just listen. #Getbackinthetruck
