I am just eavesdropping on two middle-aged women talking about how they voted. They are chuckling about how they voted “leave” (ie Tory) to “spite” their kids.
Their logic was “it’ll teach them to depend on themselves, like WE had to”.

These are women who have spent their entire lives with the support of a welfare state and EU membership since they were in their teens.

Eavesdrop update: They are now expressing incredulity at the notion that “they don’t do proper cheese like Cheddar and Stilton in Spain”.

Update 2: it transpires that one of these women has a daughter and son-in-law living in Spain who are applying for residency. She acknowledges that Brexit could make this more difficult for them but her response is that they will “just have to try harder, won’t they!”
Makes you proud to be British.
Should add that it was a friend not actually me doing the eavesdropping. But trusted.
