Gen. McChrystal praised Trump’s decision to try to kill the Iranian commander now.

“The targeting was appropriate given Suleimani’s very public role in orchestrating Iranian attacks on the U.S. and our allies,” General McChrystal said in an email.

But ....
the general added a somber warning: “We can’t consider this as an isolated action. As with all such actions it will impact the dynamics of the region, and Iran will likely feel compelled to respond in kind."

Senate headed for 3rd impeachment trial in history.

Keep in mind:
1. While McConnell wields sig. power over floor/debate in the Senate, this is different.
*Standing rules make the chief justice resp. for both trial preps and the trial.*

McConnell's rules do NOT change this.
That means there will be lots of votes, and most certainly, votes to have votes on witnesses instead of letting Roberts decide.

That said, it will really be up to the six most vulnerable Republicans in the Senate to decide if Bolton and others are heard.
That said, we haven't actually seen the rules that McConnell says he has the votes for -- so TBD whether the rules mirror the '99 rules.

2. Pentagon: "At the direction of the President, the U.S. military has taken decisive defensive action to protect U.S. personnel abroad by killing Qasem Soleimani, the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force, a U.S.-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization."

@realDonaldTrump Robert Mueller met with Trump on May 16, 2017 purely out of courtesy when Trump begged him to come and likely tried to bribe him with the FBI Director position. Mueller had already been chosen as Special Counsel by Rod Rosenstein and knew that he was ineligible for any other job.
@realDonaldTrump Moreover, Robert Mueller already served as FBI Director under both Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama. Why would he be so thirsty to serve as FBI Director yet again but under a deranged dictator who just fired James Comey in an act so brazen it was obstruction of justice?
@realDonaldTrump I mean that’s literally one of the main reasons Robert Mueller was appointed as Special Counsel. Nobody would want to be an FBI Director under those circumstances. Trump is making false accusations that Mueller wanted the FBI Director position. It’s a lie he planted in the press.
