It makes sense for a show about stargazing (sorry geology side of the club) like Koisuru Asteroid to have a production that's so focused on the lighting. Quite literally since the first shot
Noticeable diversity in the lighting conditions for a show with a mundane setting and great awareness of where those light sources are. Coupled with the understated but very threedimensional layouts, it makes for a very authentic, "real" look
(Which in turn makes the special moments where they turn up the DoF feel more magical too)
That three-dimensional feeling comes down to the angles that most scenes are framed in, but even the flatter ideas are given depth with smart placing of foreground objects
Undervalued Dogakobo tradition of interior shots with real volume
Another good couple of shots when it comes to the illusion of depth, though what caught my eye was the choice to animate the bed (as opposed to making it a BG art asset) since it makes it feel much more reactive to the touch
The acting isn't so preoccupied with realism to the same degree - which I don't mean as a negative. There are some exceptions to the rule but most animators affiliated with Dogakobo are at their best when drawing cute animation. This is no exception. Adorable
And that's not to say it leaves no room for acting nuance either. Mira's visible extroversion and Ao's much more introverted body language (down to details like her curling her toes earlier) contrast very nicely. It makes a single light episode pack so much information
Also nara's opening and Nakayama's ending both own. Slightly partial to the former because he's great at making shorthand drawings very expressive as an animator, and that carried over when directing too. The last shots where that's combined with a lower drawing count are lovely
