Was briefly at #JNU main gate last night. A few observations: 1. We saw last of the right-wingers leave and the impunity with which they moved and shouted in front of the police was striking. They kept trying to provoke others into an altercation until they just up and left (1/n)
2. There was broken glass on the road (presumably from ambulance that the attackers broke). It was JNU students who cleaned it up. 3. There were plainclothes cops (or may be civilians friendly with cops) who were taking our photos. What for, I dont know.
4. A Times Now reporter was shooting at the scene until about 50 people surrounded and heckled him "godi media was jao". I was a reporter once and I never witnessed this kind of visceral reaction to a reporter before. Speaks to the rock-bottom credibility of media (3/n)
5. Of the 2-300 people at the gate, most were JNU students, students from other universities. But there were also average middle-aged couples who showed up in solidarity. Heartening to see. (4/n)
6. I am pretty apathetic person. If they have gotten even me so riled up that I am willing to step out of my house in the middle of the night then it means that there are way too many angry people in the country willing to take action. The protests won't stop now. (n/n)
