I’ve gotten into full on arguments with friends who loved the royal wedding, gushed over a Black princess, and tried to convince me the royals were “changing” and that the royal family’s “acceptance” of this marriage was proof.

It’s a reminder that patriarchy isn’t about men but systems of oppression. A woman is the head of that monarchy (for now).

This celebration of Meghan and Harry as some kind of renegade/rebels is more about them as individuals who were just fine with an institution that is abhorrent and who now want one foot in and another out. Renegade? Perhaps if they’d done this pre-marriage & refused titles, etc
