The new book being announced today is apparently a supplement for Wildemount.
Congratulations to Matthew Mercer and the entire team that worked on the book.

I could not imagine the amount of work, nor the validation, in seeing something you've worked on for so long
get published by the company that also publishes the game that started it all. (Yes, I'm aware that they didn't publish the original D&D). I am beyond happy for you all.

Secondly, let's talk about all the folks bashing this book before seeing it. How do you "know it will suck?"
If you're not a fan of #criticalrole, and just feel that you won't be inherently interested in the material - that's fine. I was the same way with Ravnica. You know what I didn't do? Shit all over the work the team that made it did. Why? Because I have no justification in
arm chair judging their material. So Wizards is producing something that you don't want - no big deal. Plenty of other people DO want it. Wait until it's out AND READ IT before you judge its merits.

I understand you may want an officially released nostalgia tome, but
plenty of new comers to this hobby don't have a clue what those systems are or why you're bashing something they DO know about and see as D&D. Wizards is a business. Critical Role is a BUSINESS. Yes, both of them produce products for an audience that is passionate
about their hobby, but they're also in the business of making money to KEEP producing those products. CR brought our hobby to mainstream and so they're capitalizing on that fan base. I, personally, think the book will be good but I don't know because I haven't seen it.
What I do know is that if I put myself in Matthew Mercer's shoes and saw all the blowback an UNRELEASED book, that is based on something I'd created from OWN DAMN IMAGINATION, I'd be less inclined to continue making things. Branching out into the unknown is what D&D is about.
If you created something & a well known company wanted to publish your work, you'd want people to give it a fair look, right? Then do the same thing for the folks of Critical Role. They deserve nothing less. If it's not your cup of tea, fine, but don't shit on it for that reason.
