In that drop, we learned Paul Manafort blamed Ukrainians for the DNC hack in 2016--instead of Russia. This conspiracy theory has come up again in the current Ukraine situation that led to impeachment

Separately, Rick Gates told Mueller about witnessing Trump say on the campaign plane "get the emails"--and described in detail the push within the 2016 campaign to embrace the publication of damaging info that could help Trump

And, we learned Erik Prince wrote to Steve Bannon + the campaign in *2015* that Soleimani "is the Heinrich Himmler of the Iranian State," that Soleimani wasn't "DEAD is a national disgrace for America."

I've spent the last 4 days combing through new documents released by DOJ related to the Mueller report, and revisiting the Mueller Report itself.
Here's where coverage started, with a 3rd batch of Mueller 302s released through CNN & Buzzfeed's FOIA suit: cnn.com/2020/01/02/pol…
The thing that keeps jumping out at me: What Mueller investigated still matters--regarding both foreign influence in US politics and the President's behavior.
And there's still a lot that DOJ refuses to share. Redactions, exemptions, etc.
Almost perfect timing that on Friday, DOJ argued at the DC Circuit that Don McGahn is protected from testifying to Congress about Trump obstruction attempts, and that the House shouldn't see Mueller's grand jury redactions.

We still haven't seen ANY McGahn 302s.

The mystery grand jury docs that dropped tonight total almost 1,200 pages, with lots of redactions. Read them here: dcd.uscourts.gov/content/order-…
Another major thing we learn from these: The investigation that caused Mueller to subpoena this foreign govt owned company started BEFORE Mueller and is still a big, demanding investigation AFTER Mueller, per prosecutors.

Several of us have filed #FOIA lawsuits for documents from various federal agencies related to Trump's tweets and the Justice Department has told the court in response that Trump's tweets should not be taken seriously or literally and we should not be given documents.
But agency officials do respond behidn the scenes when Trump goes off on Twitter.

For example, here's then-NSA Director Mike Rogers instructing personnel not to get "sucked in" to Trump's tweetstorm.

TOMORROW will mark 5 yrs since the 525 page exec summary of the Senate Intel Committee's 6700 page torture report was released

I covered the drafting of the report & the politics leading up to release extensively

It wasn't clear the report's summary would ever be released

So in an effort to get the torture report released, in 2014 I filed a #FOIA request with CIA for it and sued arguing the report was an agency record subject to #FOIA

What I didn't know then & know now is Sen Feinstein and her top staff did not want it released via FOIA

Recently, the Justice Department posted 150 pages of emails and other documents on its #FOIA reading room revealing, in part, what went on behind the scenes after I, and later ACLU, filed the lawsuit.

I had never seen these documents before.

NEW from @a_cormier_ and me: The Justice Department just released a new version of the Mueller report in response to a #FOIA lawsuit by me/@BuzzFeedNews and @EPICprivacy. This version was processed in accordance with #FOIA

@a_cormier_ @BuzzFeedNews @EPICprivacy It appears the version of the report is identical but clearly identifies what info was withheld in response to ongoing investigations, etc.
@a_cormier_ @BuzzFeedNews @EPICprivacy In a letter to BuzzFeed News, DOJ said the material in the Mueller report was withheld under FOIA exemptions:

3, 5, 6, 7(A), 7(B), 7(C), and 7(E) of the FOIA,
5 U.S.C. § 552(b)(3), (b)(5), (b)(6), (b)(7)(A), (b)(7)(B), (b)(7)(C), and (b)(7)(E).

Not sure if anyone is aware, but for more than two years, I//@BuzzFeedNews /@_rshapiro have had a #FOIA lawsuit against multiple intel agencies for documents on their assertions that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential campaign/collusion. 1/
The agencies identified thousands of pages of documents and withheld the vast majority on national security grounds. Still, some were released and we are the only ones who have been successful in prying loose some of these records via #FOIA. 2/
So in light on the 4-page Barr memo characterizing the Mueller report (which we still haven't seen) I am reupping some of the stories I wrote from the cache of #FOIA docs on Russia interference in the 2016 campaign. These documents are from DHS, CIA, FBI, ODNI and State Dept. 3/
