House GC Doug Letter: "I believe so, yes"
@CNNPolitics Judge: Would Trump have to commit a crime to be impeached?
Letter: No.
@CNNPolitics Howell asked if DOJ shared grand jury secrets with foreign govts--but won't give that info to the House. She was clearly unhappy w possibility.

DOJ didn't know today, but will give her an answer this week (Could have been when Mueller asked for assistance abroad through MLATs.)
@CNNPolitics The House also said in court it may be consider articles of impeachment against Trump that go further than Ukraine.
Including:
-obstruction of justice
-obstruction of Congress
-foreign interference in elections

Another major thing we learn from these: The investigation that caused Mueller to subpoena this foreign govt owned company started BEFORE Mueller and is still a big, demanding investigation AFTER Mueller, per prosecutors.

The law firm Skadden Arps was implicated in Manafort's foreign lobbying admissions today.
I cannot overstate how big, powerful, rich a law firm Skadden is.
It's top tier among biggest and most powerful NYC firms. Their DC office is huge, yet they're hardly considered a "DC firm"
Putting on my law firm biz reporter hat for a minute. In Skadden's history:
- Revolutionized hostile takeovers/leveraged buyouts on Wall Street
- Welcomed Jewish partners at a time most big US law firms weren't
- In recent years, basically invented corporate tax inversions
Last year, Skadden was the United States' FIFTH largest law firm by revenue.
Was the 11th richest US law firm by partner profitability.
The amount EACH of Skadden's 361 partners made on average in 2017?
$3.47 million

OK, let's cut through the noise on impeachment.

First, let's state the obvious:

Donald Trump's entire presidency is an impeachable offense, an affront to basic human values, an insult to common sense and common decency, a threat to the rule of law.

The #MuellerReport found multiple instances where Trump obstructed—or attempted to obstruct—justice.

He has violated the emoluments clause of the Constitution by using the office to enrich himself and his family.

He coddles dictators while alienating allies.

Trump has repeatedly undermined the First Amendment (which he's sworn to defend) by inciting violence against the free press and calling them "enemies of the people."

His party has launched an unconstitutional assault on women’s reproductive rights and health.

It's time I had my say about #Impeachment, DJT's obstructionistic tactics, and @SpeakerPelosi's not pushing for an inquiry yet.

When AG Barr released the redacted version of the report to Congress, he did *not* include any of the underlying documents on which Mueller relied.

Just like a lawsuit, a case has to be built based on facts and evidence. Both the Intelligence Committee and the Judiciary Committee have been working their way through the system, including voting to hold AG Barr in Contempt of Congress. DJT has been fighting them in court.

2/
Meanwhile, the Ways and Means Committee has also been working on getting DJT's tax returns. One of the Committees has also been working on getting records subpoenaed from DJT's financial management firm and from Deutche Bank, known for Russian money laundering.

A note on #impeachment -

In a court of law, under non-presidential circumstances, impeachment is a tool litigation attorneys use to discredit the opposing side's witnesses at trial. When said witness takes the stand under oath attys. present evidence contrary to what the witness
claims. This weakens the other side's case by discrediting impeached witnesses's testimony. Once a witness has been impeached - by presentment of inconsistent testimony - the judge/jury can no longer use the impeached witnesses's testimony in reaching a verdict.
Simply put, they aren't trustworthy. In the case of Presidential impeachment that broad definition of impeachment applies, but the impeachment tool is used for a very different purpose. Under the Constitution, a sitting President cannot be tried in a court of law for anything.

2. As with most issues before Congress, substance and politics are closely related but distinguishable. As to substance, the argument -- persuasive to me -- is that obstruction of justice, contacts with Russians seeking to influence a US election, corruption and the rest...
3...will do mortal damage to American democracy if tolerated. Not proceeding toward impeachment proceedings means tolerating all of these things, though it is possible to deceive oneself on that point. The political argument @NateSilver538 makes is about American voters.
