Ed Green and Kelly Harkins Kincaid, who have pioneered WGS of hair for investigative genetic genealogy, have now set up a company called Astrea Forensics to market their services astreaforensics.com
This is exciting work with lots of potential but the methods are "proprietary" and have not yet been forensically validated and subjected to peer review.
Extraction of DNA from hair is potentially going to be very useful not just in forensics but also in genetic genealogy. However, the lack of any DNA theft laws in the US is a growing concern. There's nothing to stop anyone testing another person's DNA from "abandoned" hair.
