My small story about the lovely Mr. Jones. When I was a teenager, I was such a fan that I wrote him a letter. I expected nothing. One day I came home from school...

...and there was a package. From England. A cool looking package with a ton of postage on it. Inside was one of Terry Jones’ books and a long, lovely letter from him. I remember almost fainting. That book and letter lifted me up and sustained me through the end of high school.
They are still among my most treasured possessions. And I made a promise that if I ever got to be an author like I wanted to be, I would be like Terry. I would always try to reply and give books. Thank you for the book, Mr. Jones. You have my love always.
The best tribute we can make is to do something silly.

ME: Mom, wear pants on the plane, okay?
MOM: Maureen! I wear a dress.
ME: Don't. Flying is horrible. Like being in garbage can thrown into the sky, even at the best of times.
MOM: My dress is very comfortable. Also...
MOM: ...I will be wearing my comfortable support stockings. They are uncomfortable under slacks.
ME: You don't understand.
MOM: Besides, the air staff prefer it if you dress up.
ME: They will regard you with wonder and suspicion.
MOM; Maureen, I just don't wear slacks on a plane

I feel odd doing this, but I think it is important. That is why I will continue, despite the sensation. I'll see how I go. I was administered a date rape drug at a social occasion. I was 31 at the time. Here is what happened and #WhyIDidntReport
Who boy, twitter. This feels weird. But okay. I was at a social occasion with a good friend, at the beach. We went to a weekend brunch. I had brunch, with came with a light mimosa, which I sipped at with my pancakes. I suddenly remember feeling...odd.
(Still feels very weird.) Things started to get dark, in a very specific way. I remember it was like a camera shutter. The outsides of the frame got dark and the center was all I had and that was getting smaller and smaller.

First, let's get rid of the narrative of the "nice" slavemaster.

Slavery was a cruel institution in and of itself. It is no more possible to be a "good slavemaster" than it is to be a rapist. And white people have ALWAYS known this.
That is why Thomas Jefferson was a rapist. Sally Hemmings was his property and was, therefore, unable to give consent.

She had no choice.

And, while white people love to say slavery wasn't cruel in the context of the time, even the white people BACK THEN knew it was wrong.

She was a straight A student, was accepted to Temple honors program with a scholarship. She has the mind of an engineer.
I remember one day she came home from elementary school so excited, she had learned about simple machines.
Her high school science teacher encouraged her to pursue engineering and she went for it. After her first year in college it all fell apart, the mental health system decided she was a drug addict (THC) and wanted to send her to drug rehab. She declined and found a neurologist...

Taehyung double checked the address on his phone before looking up at the mansion in front of him. To say it was large would be an understatement; with its gray & tan stoned driveway and tall, swaying palm trees, this was easily one of the most beautiful houses he had ever seen.
He walked up to the ornate mahogany door, taking in the intricate patterns carved into the wood, marveling at the level of detail that went into it. He rang the doorbell once, twice before turning the doorknob, surprised that it was unlocked.

I watched a video of a young man and his mum, where she was overjoyed to see him unexpectedly after he has been in med school abroad for 6yrs. I haven't stopped crying.
Maybe cos it triggered an experience I had in 2006. July, 14th precisely. D happiest & saddest day of my life.
