Stoke Managers 🤔
We’ve tried a lot of different manager types over the last few years! Despite trying different methods, we’ve continually come unstuck.

Interesting to compare and contrast...

#stoke #scfc #stokecity #potters
Tony Pulis
Style: Direct, physical, wide attack, target man.

Personality: Transparent, hard working manager who expected the same from his team. Dished out discipline.

Downfall: Longevity of tenure lost players interest and fans belief in his style.

Success: ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Mark Hughes
Style: More flair play, two sitting CMs to allow fluid movement up top.

Personality: Closed off to the media, occasionally prickly, regularly fractious vs managers.

Downfall: Could not organise or purchase solid defenders. Repeated bad recruitment.

Success: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Paul Lambert
Style: Defensively minded, low possession counter attack football.

Personality; Enthusiastic, likeable and happy to take a job a SCFC.

Downfall: Did not have the management or motivation skills for a group of mentally relegated players.

Success: ⭐️
Gary Rowett
Style: 4-3-3 with two advanced wingers playing as wide forwards.

Personality: Over confident upon his arrival, setting an air of arrogance. Relationship with fans quickly soured

Downfall: Breakdown of fan relations & poor (and expensive) recruitment

Success: ⭐️
Nathan Jones
Style: diamond 4-4-2, with wing backs to support.

Personality: Passionate, chest thumping, arm waving cheerleader. Very animated.

Downfall: Failed to stick with his philosophy, poor recruitment, struggled with bigger ego players.

Success: ⭐️
Michael O’Neill
Style: Defensive rigidity with players knowing what is expected of them. Wing play, creative number 10, two deep CMs.

Personality: Understated, calm and assuring presence on the touch line and with the media. Player whisperer...

Downfall: .....

Success: ⭐️⭐️
