At some point we have to call this "Saudi hacks Bezos" story "fake news". It's debunked, yet the media still pushes it. Sure, this story does point out it's purely "circumstantial', but then goes on to treat as almost certainly true.
As, as my non-technical and technical deep dives demonstrate, the FTI report contains no evidence of a hack. It's a conspiracy theory that treats things the investigators don't understand as evidence -- much like UFO believers.

By "at some point" I mean, maybe not initially, when breaking news is always problematic. I mean a week later after people have had time to digest the story and fact check it, finding problems, and it's STILL treated as fact.
The file the FTI researchers couldn't decrypt is in fact easily decryptable. Just take an iPhone backup, open the file 7c7fba66680ef796b916b067077cc246adacf01d in SQLite, and grab the ZMEDIAKEY field from the ZWAMEDIAITEM table and use it to decrypt.
The instructions on debunking the story fit in a single tweet and STILL the media reports that story as fact, and there's nothing the tech experts can do to correct this. Absolutely nothing.
The Washington Post and its corrupt reporters like @ReedAlbergotti have even less incentive to correct the story.
@ReedAlbergotti All the FTI report found were weird things they couldn't explain, which if you look hard enough, is what every forensics report finds. It pretended these things were evidence. When Alex Jones does this, you call him "fake news".
@ReedAlbergotti Here's a story from WaPo calling Alex Jones "misinformation" because of this sort of conspiracy theory.
