I do not know Patrick Philbin, and I find a lot of his arguments at this trial revolting. I will, however, remind people hating on him today of another episode in his career: He played a key role in the famous “hospital room” showdown during the Bush administration.
As a young OLC lawyer working under @jacklgoldsmith, he did a lot of the work that led OLC and @Comey to conclude that Stellar Wind could not be supported legally.
He also paid a real price for doing so—as @bartongellman described: 
I cannot explain his current role. And I will not try. He used to be someone who stood up to power in the name of law.
