Something I think about often is what I call "Guru Syndrome," when someone becomes an untouchable expert with an inability to even consider how they might be wrong. Run the opposite way!

It's okay to feel sad. It's okay to feel down. It's okay to feel apathetic.

Repressing this stuff or trying to make it go away does no good. These emotions are part of the human experience. Name them. Try to open to them. Share what you're feeling with others.
I've been in a bit of a low place lately. The thoughts and feelings aren't any less intense than in the past. But I'm not fighting them, which is making the whole thing much more manageable. Something learned over time: fighting, wishing, or pretending you're chipper never works.
Also, I picked up the phone and called good friends (thanks @mariofraioli and @stevemagness). I didn't ask them to make it better or take pity. I just shared what I was feeling. We talked for a while. They basically said: "Oh, yeah, because you're a human." This helps.
