Any Democrat would be constrained in two ways: by the relative centrism of the public and Congress, and by the relative progressivism of the modern Democratic Party 2/
As a result, if, say, Sanders wins we won't get a radical expansion of government; we'll get a significant but not radical expansion of the safety net, paid for with taxes on the rich 3/
On the other hand, if Biden wins we'll get ... a significant but not radical expansion of the safety net, paid for with taxes on the rich 4/
The point is that Dems should rally behind whoever comes out on top. Progressives should realize that even a centrist would be much more progressive than Trump, or even Obama; centrists should realize that even a progressive would be moderated in practice 5/
Don't be Never Bernie; don't be Bernie or Bust. And do remember that all the Dems believe in democracy and rule of law 6/
