We’ve been asked why we’re supporting female musicians who are speaking out about festivals with very non-diverse line ups.
So here is our take.
We run a group that has about 50/50 gender spilt. Which is 👍🏼. But though the young women are brilliant, they are much less confident about their music. They don’t see the stage as a space for them and they feel their voices aren’t legit, because it still feels like a lads club.
Then it becomes self perpetuating because young women give up & then there’s not as many of them to be on the main stage of a festival etc. And then little girls look at that & internalise that’s it’s not for them. We see this EVERY WEEK.
This is why, for us, representation at every level is V IMPORTANT.
