Just finished the new Amazon doc series "Ted Bundy: Falling for a Killer"

It's remarkable. Astonishing really. Almost totally absent is the voice of Bundy, over-glorified in most things.

Instead, the women narrate. The victims. Their sisters and friends. The detectives. /1
It's about them. What it was like being a woman while Bundy was preying on women. How he got away with dozens more murders because women weren't taken seriously as victims, witnesses, investigators. How ill-prepared the society was to deal with serial attackers of women./2
It goes in depth on the guilt of the women who got away, evaded him, survived. On those who fell for his lies and games. On how they have struggled to deal with what that means. /3

- the bros now seem to have preemptive block-lists just like the trump-trainers and Kremlin narrative groups

- some accounts have really exposed themselves going all-in on wacko coronavirus stuff

A reminder today:

For 150 years, there were no term limits on the presidency because George Washington set the standard by stepping down after one term.

He believed — and wanted the nation to see — that presidents were equal to other Americans. That we had no king.
He knew the nature of this new, brave system was that power must not be concentrated on one office, one man, one charismatic leader. Power must be dispersed, balanced between branches, to preserve the core values of democracy.

It evolves. Requires change. Fresh blood & ideas.
Washington had fought a war — won a war that was impossible to win — to buy the freedom for these ideas.

And in giving up power, he showed they were real, viable, enduring.

He would laugh in the face of anyone arguing one man retaining the presidency is in the public interest.

Last night I wrote a thread that critically reflected on some aspects of what I called the trans rights academic movement. Here are some brief reflections on those reflections. 1/6
I don’t want to give an overly pessimistic impression of academic philosophy, mainly because it would be inaccurate, but also because perpetuation of this inaccuracy can be used as a trope to shut departments and unfairly discredit academics or philosophers as a group. 2/6
I think the phenomenon I described is real and worth pointing out, but I also want to say that I am the beneficiary of the support, collegiality and kindness of many in the discipline, both faculty and postgrad. Some are completely opposed to my politics, some are ambivalent 3/6

I’ve let some of you down. Not the first time and prob not the last time. Against my better judgment, I’m going to say more. Not just to clarify my initial intent, but because this stuff is on my heart. Mute or cancel me as you see fit.
I was introduced to Chance in part because of his desire to do better by Black women and girls. Yes, I consider him a friend and I’m protective of him to some extent. I would prioritize neither of those things over the pain BW have endured bc of misogynoir.
My reaction to everything last night, however, is one that I would have had even if I didn’t know him or much about him. Everything broke while I was at a viewing party where we discussed next steps and how to use this moment to truly change things.

I believe one way we can create a safer future is to understand the various tactics abusers use to deceive. I hope the last year has increased our discernment and courage to confront. To that end, here's a thread of deceptive tactics abusers might use to groom their targets:
Abusers might use their position of power to grant favors and give gifts to those with less power. Attached to the favors and gifts is the unspoken expectation to do whatever is asked of you. Past favors are used as guilt trips when demands are not met.
Abusers can use their power to offer help in ways that are beyond necessary. This over-helping can be a form of manipulation in which you and others are made to believe that the only way you can succeed is with their help, which makes you dependent upon their help.

First of all, multi-party systems are the worst kinds of chaotic awfulness. It's often the tyranny of minority.

The far left would be catatonic here because it would be forced to do something it's not good at or prone to, and that's be a part of a coalition.

In a system where no party gets a working majority they have to form coalitions to achieve that, and often can't, forcing another election attempt.

In the end, you still usually end up with two sides to everything the government coalition and the opposition coalition.

Also, in a multi party system minority party members get heard or taken seriously or accomplish anything.

Sanders is a great example. The loner, screaming into the wind who accomplishes zero legislatively.
