So all we’ve heard for weeks is “young people are for Bernie and that’s while he’ll win,” and then in Iowa, so far, caucus turnout for young folks is well below that for older folks and that’s a state where Bernie is popular... no one becomes POTUS based on 18-35 year olds
And if it comes down to Bernie relying on 20 year olds or Trump relying on folks in The Villages and people like them, let me tell you who’s gonna win... all of history says it. Hopes and aspirations mean nothing by comparison to history and evidence...wish it wasn’t so but..
Demos and rallies are exciting and get folks pumped so doing that is easy for most. Voting is boring and seems banal by comparison so young folks do it at lower rates every time. Zero exceptions.. yet rallies mean fuck all when it comes to choosing a president...it’s fun tho!
I was this person... it’s a function of youth relative to political engagement ...Youth cynicism (understandable) leads to lower turnout. Anyone who thinks that that changes because Bernie is the candidate is betting against all of history. Hope that works out but...

I wish we could start from the likely proposition that partisans of each Dem honestly think their person most likely to beat Trump. They may be right or wrong, but presuming folks to be acting in bad faith, "Neo-liberal capitalist shills," or "cult members" isn't helpful...
are there people operating in bad faith? Oh sure, some are. Some just wanna blow everything up; others are trying to maintain their hold on power within the party or economic order. But most really are responding to legit concerns and fears about 4 more years of Trump AND...
...the belief that their candidate is best positioned to stop that as well as implement meaningful changes they (the partisans) believe in. Rather than seeking to impugn the motives of those who support candidates we don't, let's assume honest disagreement...

A Thread/ Since Stop and Frisk is being discussed again, thanks to the prior shameful racist justifications of it by Mike Bloomberg & ongoing defense of it by right wingers, it would be helpful to review how awful and stupid the policy was...and was KNOWN to be at the time...
By 2010 in NYC after a little more than a decade of SAF, over 600,000 people were being stopped annually under the program: about 85 percent of them, black or Latino...
Defenders of the policy justified these disparities by saying that since POC commit a dispro share of violent crime in NYC the dispro stop rates made sense as crime control policy. So let’s take a look at that...

Bloomberg is a racist and he was wrong about this btw... whites stopped by NYPD were more likely to have contraband than POC... his view on stop and frisk has been disproved and tho he’s admitted he was wrong, he shouldn’t be forgiven for this to the point of being the nominee...
Also, side note: those who say (as the right does) that dispro stops of POC were legit Bc POC commit dispro violent crime in NY miss the point: only 15% of stops were for suspicion of violent crime... stops were for drugs, “furtive movement” and simply being in hi crime hood..
So u cant use violence numbers to justify stops when that’s not why people were stopped, according to NYPDs own records

My father came to Vermont Castings as this stove was readying to launch.

I was eight, and after school used to walk to his office in the old plant on Prince Street in Randolph, because my mom still worked at Wheaton College in MA.
3/16 I would draw or do homework at a drafting table in an office they called the "bomb shelter", because its low ceiling, tiny door, and three men over 6'4" working inside.

One day I went to the local Aubuchon hardware store to buy a red plastic sled so I could go "sliding"

Version 3 of the #CFBPlayoff rankings were released last night. What you expected? If youve followed along since early Oct you know the process. You werent surprised. For the rest of you, lets take a look & compare to what was projected using the same process used for 5 yrs.
First off, why does the committee use this process? Think about it. 14 busy guys make up this committee. They have roughly 60 hrs from when the last game ends on Sat to when they need to have this Top 25 created on Tues. If they evaluate only 30 teams to get that 25, how much
time is adequate to evaulate? 1 hr? Thats 30 hrs of evaluation. Half the time is gone & no one has slept. The process of getting a consensus out of 14 people hasnt even started. Thats why this process is kept so simple, & its why they have a defined predictable process.

As the work on building Amravati, the new capital city AP, comes to a grinding halt, concerns emerge about Amravati (APCRDA) bonds held by Franklin MF (~Rs. 1000 Cr) and Birla MF (Rs. ~300 Cr). Thread 1/11
During the Chandrababu Govt, Amravati received political as well as financial patronage. Now, with Jagan Reddy being incharge of the state, the project is in shambles. World Bank & ADB pulled out of the project and the Government is looking for reasons to scrap it. 2/n
The bonds issued to support the financing needs of the project were subscribed by Franklin MF and Birla MF. The bonds are guaranteed by the AP Govt but it's not sure if the Govt would keep servicing the bonds. The risk of lending to a state govt has again come to the fore. 3/11
