In the beginning there was the Idea, and the Idea was with the Founders, and the Idea was the Founders. The Idea was void and formless. It was an Idea to revolutionize the Industry. All things came into existence through the Founders.
The founders parted the Infinite realm of possibilities into the Server. The Server had two parts, the App and the Storage:
The Founders looked upon this and said it was Good. So they plucked these into the Datacenter with a Reverse Proxy to allow traffic from customers:
And it was good. The Founders rejoiced! The App was working! The customers were happy. The money was rolling in.

Then, tragedy struck.

The Server went down, and the customers had no ability to get to the App.
So the Founders added another server for The App and moved the Storage to yet another server:
This allowed customers to reach the App even if one of the Servers went down! This increased reliability and they survived future outages of single servers.

Then, tragedy struck. Through an error of one of the New Hires, the Servers started running different versions of the App.
This made some customers not able to access the new feature they were paying for! This caused them to be angry at the Founders and they cursed their names.

A solution was crafted and the Deployment Tool was introduced:
And it was Good. And the customers rejoiced once again.

Then the Founders needed to retire the old servers for new ones with more beefy specs.
And then the Founders retired the two old app servers, but sometimes the customers were getting directed to the old and nonexistent app servers:
It was DNS.
So a compromise was needed. A new set of servers was commissioned for the reverse proxying:
And the deployment tool needed to become aware of these proxies for adding more:
So the Founders could add more app servers to meet capacity:
And then automation was created to make adding new app servers easier:
And then some component of the app needed to do asynchronous work so here have more servers:
But then this was putting too much pressure on the poor storage server and it keeled over and died.

So a message queue was added into the equation:
And then RilkefCorp wanted to have it interact with FooStore in the cloud:
And then the entire FooStore stack ended up being acquired by the Founders:
And then someone heard about The Cloud and decided that the whole app should move there but really only moved the new app that wasn't finished being developed yet:
And then someone decided we needed more internal tooling:
And then came tools to automate the automation:
And then came a "safe" wrapper for that:
And then that tool started growing in scope:
And then the cloud migration completed:
And then FooStore went into the cloud too:
And then the admin tools went on the cloud too because why not:
So homework for you all: what can happen if Kitten is changed?
If you guessed: fucking anything, you're right!
