Year 2: $50,500 ($50,000 + $500 year one increase) x 1% = $505 x 19 years = $9595.
Year 3: $51505 ($50,000 + $500 year one increase + $505 year two increase) x 1% = $510.05 x 18 years = $9180.09.

Total lifetime increase based on 3 years of 1% increase: $28,779.09.
That's just for the first three years alone. The 1% would carry over into subsequent years as well, because teacher salaries tend to be locked in. The question is: would you sacrifice $1,250 for one year to gain $28,779.09 over 20? I would, and I'd make no apologies for it. /7
That's why the idea that teachers aren't striking for a compensation increase is misleading. They are, and I don't have an issue with that. I have an issue with being misled, though, and others should as well. /8 /END
