Snowy setting here near Hudson, NH, where Biden’s holding a Get Out The Vote event in a school. Traffic stopped nearby for a dozen turkeys to cross the road. Flakes light falling. 48 hrs to primary.
Here’s the view from the inside. Maybe 300 have turned up.
Scoreboard switched to 20:20
Biden’s most effective moments are when he empathises and connects in these small crowds. He describes the despair of his son’s cancer, the fear of being without insurance + his belief in Obamacare. Scores raise their hands when asked if they’ve also lost someone to cancer.
Biden’s been framing his pitch all about character, his vs Trump’s.

“You can sense when things are wrong, you can sense when things are out of control”

On people struggling to pay for cancer treatment - “Do you think the president even knows these people are out there?”
Biden spending a lot of time articulating pain + anger.

“The working class is getting clobbered. The bottom’s fallen out of the middle class.”

“What’s wrong with us? What’s going on? What’s it all about? ... What do we stand for?”

(Much less on the solutions)
Interesting. Biden says he can think of at least 6 women + 4 African-Americans who he’d be happy to make his vice president. Specificity perhaps suggests he has a list? Could he name a candidate early if bid keeps faltering?
Biden is about to name names re which presidential candidates he’d offer jobs to if he wins, but pulls up. “I’ll get in trouble”.

But he does say - “There are a lot of people running now I wouldn’t hesitate to take on a position in the White House”.
Nice moment with an elderly voter.

“I’m 92 years old”

Biden: “I want to see your license, I don’t believe it!”

“I don’t have one”
Biden: “I know I can take Trump physically and mentally... I’d challenge him to a golf game if he has to carry his bag.”
You can read too much into event turnout but the fact there are a few hundred at this Biden event and Mayor Pete attracted 1800 this morning does not bode well.
Joe meeting the locals.
Two last things.

1) Biden’s interruptions of his train of thought, going “anyway” or “well I won’t go into that” mid-sentence, are quite jarring.

2) He v rarely talks about specific plans for change, perhaps less than any other candidate. More on past wins / today’s problems.
