THREAD: The history India is silent on that must be revisited as we face the threat of #NRC detention. During the 1962 war with China, India rounded up thousands of Indians of Chinese descent saying they were "foreigners" & a threat, and jailed them for 5yrs in detention centres
2/ A book every Indian supporting the #NRC_CAA_NPR protests #MustRead if you really want to know how deep racist persecution runs through Indian history. Similarly, most Chinese rounded up and sent in trains to #detentioncentres in Deoli, Rajasthan, were from #Assam & #Bengal.
3/ The 3000 Chinese, the Indian govt put into detention centres in 1962 were 2nd/3rd generation in India. Many died in detention due to sickness & starvation. Most were FORCEFULLY deported but did not want to go as India was home! #NRC_CAA_NPR

BJP's failure in winning 'intellectual' debate became most apparent in #CAA. Reason lies with party. I worked in this space 4 too long to kno how long term agendas are set. Why intellectualism is equated to #Left leaning among a section in #WestBangal & #India. 1/n
I have been consistent in saying that #CAA is a major correction to the historic neglect to human tragedies from sustained flight of #Hindu & other minority from #EastPakistan/#Bangladesh. It's unfinished job of #Partition. 2/n
#Secularism will be threatened only when #India wil institutionally discriminate between two sets of citizens, as it happened in #Pakistan & #Bangladesh not by virtue of giving citizenship 2 d discriminated/persecuted in this 2 countries born out of discriminatory principles. 3/n

Why men like #Owaisi are threat to our national integration.

In 1905, Bampfylde Fuller was appointed the first Lt. Governor of newly carved East #Bengal & #Assam. A communal schemer like his boss Viceroy Curzon, Fuller befriended the Nawab of Dacca, a man of his ilk.
Nationalists and Congress had sharply reacted to the Bengal partition. They demanded for its immediate annulment. To counterbalance, Fuller tried to rouse Muslims in favour of the partition. In one interview, Fuller is said to have remarked that of his two wives..

..the Mohammedan was the favourite.

Fuller & Nawab of Dacca, were merely shoots of a sapling. This seed was planted 42 years ago in 1863, when Nawab Abdul Lateef started 𝐼𝑠𝑙𝑎𝑚𝑖 𝑀𝑎𝑗𝑙𝑖𝑠-𝑖-𝑀𝑢𝑧𝑎𝑖𝑘𝑟𝑎 or 𝑀𝑜ℎ𝑎𝑚𝑚𝑒𝑑𝑎𝑛 𝐿𝑖𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑟𝑦 𝑆𝑜𝑐𝑖𝑒𝑡𝑦.

#ImprovementVsReconstruction

Poet Goethe said on eve of Battle of Valmy - "From this day forth begins a new era in the history of the world".

Lord Curzon had struck a massive blow to the good work of Indian National Congress by announcing #Bengal Partition of 1905.

INC was started by Allan Octavian Hume who had been a governor of Etawah region during 1857. The war had rendered him radically anti-colonial. Viceroy Dufferin deemed the INC a 'safety valve'. This valve eventually grew to become an umbrella above all political streams.

Two prominent streams working under the INC umbrella around Bengal Partition (1905) were Loyalists and Nationalists. These factions revolved around moderate GK Gokhale and nationalist BG Tilak. Gokhale supported constitutional improvements. Tilak demanded Swaraj.

#Baghdadi was similar to a man our history books conveniently chose to forget. Minhaj-us-Siraj was a trusted Turk cleric who wrote 𝘛𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘲𝘢𝘵-𝘪-𝘕𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘳𝘪. This book remains the only source of #History of Bengal in Delhi sultanate till 1259 AD, when it ends abruptly.
Tabaqat-i-Nasiri chronicles a 𝘒𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘫𝘪 worse than 𝘈𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘶𝘥𝘥𝘪𝘯. Ikhtiyar ad din Muhammad bin Bakhtiyar Khalji was a #Turkish slave from Afghanistan, in search of military opportunities. He was denied service by 𝘎𝘩𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘥s and 𝘈𝘪𝘣𝘢𝘬 of Delhi.
