Nearly everyone who was running the company when it allowed a breach of 143 million Americans' personal data is still rich, and their former lawyer is in charge of the office at the FTC that's supposed to investigate them
I say "nearly everyone" because one executive did go to prison—not for his role in the breach, but for insider trading related to the breach theverge.com/2019/6/29/2005…

You'd think the guy who made "Drain the Swamp" a rallying cry would know what it means, yet he has named more lobbyists to cabinet positions in 3 years than his predecessors did in 8 years.

Pretending to be the arbiter of who treats the black community well is a bold move for a guy whose dad was arrested at a klan rally and who, along with his dad, was sued by Nixon's DOJ for systematically discriminating against prospective black tenants
The same guy who ran ads in major newspapers calling on New York to "bring back the death penalty" to execute five black and brown kids for a crime they were later proven not to have committed.

The guy who, to this day, says they were were guilty.
They guy who was, for years, the face of the birther conspiracy

As Trump moves to push out another top national security official, it's worth remembering that Trump doesn't have a permanent director of national intelligence or principal deputy director. He has no DHS secretary, deputy DHS secretary, Secretary of the Navy, or DEA administrator
DNI: Resigned in August, no nominee

Dep DNI: same

DHS Secretary: Resigned last April, no nominee

Deputy Secretary: same

Navy Secretary: Resigned in November, nominee announced, but not referred to the Senate

DEA administrator: No nominee, ever
There are no nominees for the top three positions at DHS.

There are 34 positions at State with no nominee, including ambassador to Ukraine (a country the president is apparently deeply concerned about).

DoD has 11 top positions with no nominee.

2. Framing and narratives matter. Seeing #data only as an asset (oil, gold, currency, etc) ignores implicit risks. Also seeing it as radioactive (with a half-life), an externality, a ticking time bomb, a liability, etc helps to locate it in a larger ecosystem. 2/n #GoingDigital
3. To a tech hammer, every socioeconomic problem looks like a tech nail. Informational asymmetries and power imbalances require attention to complex structural issues, not just on deployment of one size fits all tech solutions in a box. 3/n #GoingDigital

UCC had opportunity to comment on the #Data.Protection & Privacy Bill. The enactment of this law is long overdue. A comprehensive law on the collection & processing personal information gives effect to the right to Privacy envisaged under Article 27(2) of the Constitution
UCC welcome the protections offered by the Bill in terms of export of data, breach notification requirements, data subjects access rights, automated decision making, compensation and the right to be forgotten and provision for financial and penal sanctions for breach of the law.
Distinction between Data collectors & data controllers.
The Bill should however clarify & distinguish Data Collectors, from Data Processors & Data Controllers. Clause 2 is inconsistent with international good practice which provides for two broad categories of Data Controllers
