You gotta look closely here, but it appears NYT has determined that DOJ spokesperson Kerri Kupec’s claim—that the decision to override the sentencing rec was made before the president’s tweet—is untrue.
Correx: They’re saying whenever the decision was made, the intervention itself occurred hours after Trump’s tweet.
It does say that, but my understanding is that NYT is leaving room for the narrow possibility that Barr *decided* to do this on Monday or sometime before 1:48 a.m. on Tuesday, but then *acted* only after the president had tweeted.
