1) I'm looking at this hashtag #enditmovement . I follow the scholarly and activism literature on human trafficking and slavery. Interestingly, they are not involved in this hashtag day. First things first: there is no movement without strategy and tactics. I see neither.
2) Second, spreading outrage is steering people away from actual knowledge. What is human trafficking? Who executes the actions? Who can interfere or stop the social agents involved in trafficking? Where does law enforcement com in and which branch?
3) It's obvious that everybody is against human trafficking and slavery. Kids will post pictures of their hands with the red X. Meanwhile, I see evangelicals that have been shown to be involved in the crimes promoting the hashtag.
4) Third, there's the negative reinforcement of the idea that social media participation equals social action. It doesn't. Let me give you an example. There is a ample demand for health system reform in the USA. "Free Medicare 4all!".
5) I am knowledgeable in public health policy design. I've been professionally involved in it at a senior level. I offered EVERY-SINGLE-ONE of the democratic candidates free consultancy on that and also other matters that I have expertise on.
6) Except for @ewarren, they don't have detailed policies (I don't have a candidate: this is a factual statement) for health care reform. Environment? Immigration? Nope. Still, they don't seem to need the highly valuable activism from experts.
7) Movements must have detailed strategies and tactics. The pathetic demand for impeaching whoever else is that: pathetic. Somebody is very bad at math and can't count man-hours.
8) Without much hope, I keep sharing curated threads. Most of them contain links for the download of important documents and books. Take my word for it, but know where it came from.
9) I have a plan for electoral activism and that's on ground, not online.
But then again, I won't engage in the power play to get my contributions put to use. That's why I'm a scholar and an educator, not a politician ass-licking leech.
