I’m currently working on a couple of new tweet-stories, but I wanted to take a little time on this Saturday to share something uplifting.

I wanted to introduce a coworker named Stephanie.

Stephanie is an ICU nurse. She’s been doing it a long time, and she’s wonderful at it. 1/
She’s supremely skilled, calm under pressure, and has that rare gift of being able to sense danger before it happens.

She’s also a natural empath. When families weep, Stephanie cries with them. She always sees her patients in context, as whole human beings.

She cares. 2/
I first met Stephanie five years ago.

In the entirety of that time, I’ve never heard her raise her voice, lose her cool, or do a single mean-spirited thing.

If anything, she’s always upbeat and smiling, and asking how you’re doing.

But bad things happen to good people... 3/
For a variety of reasons that I won’t go into, the last few years have been difficult for Stephanie. Brutal, even.

And yet you’d never guess it if you met her.

You’d never know that the cheerful nurse caring for you so diligently was carrying the weight of the world. 4/
And so, I resolved to do something for her. Because if I was hurting deeply, I know she’d stop the world from turning if it would help me.

So here’s a little not-so-secret about Stephanie: she loves “Dawson’s Creek.” The TV show.

She even named her daughter “Dawson.” 5/
Using @BookCameo, I reached out to @vanderjames. I told him a bit about Stephanie and asked him if he could send her some Valentine’s Day happiness. I was expecting maybe a 10 second snippet.

Instead, James was wonderfully gracious and kind.

Behold!

Update: both Stephanie and Dawson loved it! 🎉🎉 One minute of James’ time, and the world was a little brighter for a hard-working mom and her daughter.

It’s my privilege to work alongside you Steph, and be your friend.

I’m on call this weekend. See you in the Unit! 🙏🏻🙌
